Преторианская гвардия и сенат: по разные стороны баррикад?

Основное внимание уделено прежде не изучавшейся интеракции сенаторов с самыми приближенными к императору людьми – воинами его охраны, преторианской гвардии. В контексте политического развития империи преторианцы воспринимаются обычно как простые исполнители воли правителя, что в целом справедливо, но преимущественно на «большом масштабе». В то же время отношения в треугольнике «сенат – император – гвардия» были намного сложнее. Верхушка гвардии в ряде случаев вступала в различного рода отношения с представителями курии, в том числе и враждебные к императору, в то время как рядовой состав, формировавшийся из иной социальной среды, обычно не разделял политических амбиций своих начальников.
