Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the features of human intelligence and the intelligence of complex computer systems, usually referred to as artificial intelligence (AI). As a hypothesis, a statement was formulated about a significant difference between human and artificial intelligence. Human intelligence is a product of a multi-thousand-year history of the development and interaction of three interrelated processes: 1) the formation and development of the human personality; 2) the formation of complex network relationships between members of the social community; 3) collective activity as the basis for the existence and development of communities and individuals. AI is a complex of technological solutions that imitate human cognitive processes. Because of this, with all the options for technical development (acceleration of processes for collecting and processing data and finding solutions, using computer vision, speech recognition and synthesis, etc.). AI will always be associated with human activity. In other words, only people (not machines) are the ultimate source and determinant of values on which any artificial intelligence depends. No mind (human or machine) will ever be truly autonomous: everything we do depends on the social context created by other people who determine the meaning of what we want to achieve. This means that people are responsible for everything that AI does.

Abstract

The coronavirus pandemic has radically transformed the life of Russians in all spheres: the economic crisis, lockdown, border closures, the flow of fakes and disinformation affected everyone. In these conditions, the methods of organizing the work of the mass media have also changed. Since the number of newsbreaks has decreased, and communication with interviewees and experts is increasingly taking place remotely, this affects the quality of information products. Journalists are often forced to switch to remote work and freelancing, but they remain representatives of a profession with increased risks of infection. The latest practice shows that as a result, the quality of created information products often declined. There were also financial losses because advertisers refused to cooperate with media that were losing their audience. The authors conducted an expert survey of employees of several editorial offices in order to analyze exactly how their work has changed during the pandemic. The results demonstrate a significant breakdown of the previously formed system: new formats of creative activity are being created right now, and journalists find both disadvantages and advantages in this alternative. The work of freelance journalists is becoming more and more relevant in this situation. Their presence in the office is not necessary, and at the same time they can work 24/7.

Abstract

Under the influence of digital technologies, there has been a total restructuring of contemporary journalism as a social institution and communication activity. The new phenomenon of IT-journalism was established, and, characterizing the form of its existence as a system, was based on the post-structural model. This is manifested in a change in sociocultural status; in the structural and functional transformations of media editorial offices and the journalism as profession; in change in the structure and methods of distribution of journalistic products; in diversifying of the “packaging” of content; in communicative inversion in the space of media texts; in “erosion” of the configuration and semantic structure of the traditional media text; in deviation from professional ethical standards of journalism. The authors of the article believe that the post-structuralist transformation of the traditional model of journalism is irreversible and in a number of aspects has enriched journalistic communicative practice. However, at the same time, they agree with the researchers who note its negative consequences that require more detailed analysis and institutional correction.

Abstract

The article reconstructs basic ideological aspects of the image of Russia as a negative Constituent Other in the political rhetoric of the Ukrainian president P. Poroshenko. Drawing on all 315 texts of public speeches and appeals made by P. Poroshenko during his presidency, the article shows that rhetorical construction of the image of Russia relies on the basic concept of “empire”. Imperial status is presented as an essential characteristic of Russia, which does not depend on any historically defined phase of its development (including Soviet modernization and the post-Soviet period) and manifests itself in the effort of the negative Other to liquidate Ukraine’s status as subject actor of international relations and as an independent nation state. Modeling Russia’s image as a constant and atemporal aggressor and a source of threats implies casting in fixed permanent terms its influence on Ukraine as colonial policy, inclusive of the present phase of Russian-Ukrainian relations.

Abstract

Within the framework of the culture of questioning we have explored alternative questions that occupy an intermediate position between the well-known open and closed questions. In terms of language, this is a situational or contextually incomplete sentence. Based on the regular incomplete implementation of the language model, we can speak about the formation of an independent interrogative syntactic structure “N1 or N1?”, in which the idea of choice is realized through grammatical rather than lexical means. In this case, the semantics of the construction actualizes the meaning of the disjunctive conjunction or. In terms of media communication, it is important that this type of question is widely used in interviews on the popular video hosting platform YouTube (in particular, on the channels “Wdud” (recognized as a foreign agent), “Caution: Sobchak”, “Tell Gordeeva”, RTVI: “Special Guest”). The alternative question is the element of play, agonality, competition. It is usually included in a series of short questions of the “Blitz” section and allows the interviewer to realize different intentions: to update important topics of the conversation or to touch on new areas. In this case, a binary opposition is created based on contextual homonymy, which allows assessment according to the principle: “friend or foe”. Various scenarios of the interviewee's speech behavior have been identified. The cooperation strategy is implemented in different versions of the answer to an alternative question; the strategy of confrontation is the refusal to answer (direct or indirect). Alternative questions emphasize the binary nature of thinking, embody the strategy of polarization.

Abstract

In the non-concert period of 2020, interviews with famous musicians on the СlassicalMusicNews portal show strengthening of the trend identified and described by the author in the previous publications. The traditional narrative interview disappears, since the event chronotope of musical events is temporarily lost, the emerging niche is occupied by the mentative interview. The author describes the phenomenon of such type of interviews, introduces the distinctive features of mentative and narrative interviews, proposes the concept of a grid of questions for mentative interview, describes the methodology for analyzing interviews from this perspective. The interpretation of the tendency of actualizing the mentative interview is developed along four lines: the influence of extralinguistic factors on the discourse space, the transformation of reference and the modification of the text, the place of the mentative in the history of literature and the pattern of its actualization, the degree of mastery of the narrative and the mentative in the discourse of our time.

Abstract

The article studies the issue of popularization of scientific knowledge that forms its own media sphere, and their transmedia “mutation”. The article examines Vladimir Mayakovsky’s characters and related myths: “lover”, “suicide”, “propagandist”, “rebel”, etc. It is noted that a historical or literary persona, depending on the era or political situation, freely changes its axiological status. Currently, Mayakovsky is a meme, a template, a sign that expresses modern stereotypes of mass consciousness. The article talks about such media and media platforms as “Arzamas”, “Russian Seven”, “Yandex.Zen”, which presents a variety of materials in orientation to the addressee, in style and correlation with facts: from those claiming to be literary and school-methodical texts to frank fakes. It is concluded that in order to attract a mass consumer, such articles are built on the principle of cognitive dissonance, as it is one of the most effective ways of producing “meanings” for the exploitation of mass consciousness. In the case of Mayakovsky, there is collision of opposite, mutually exclusive ideas about him.

The publications discussed issues related to the functions of teachers in the creation of school wall newspapers, to the involvement of teachers in the work of editorial offices of children's print publications and radio newspapers; to the participation of teachers in compiling lists of films for children and in developing screenplays for films about the school. The article analyzes various approaches to the implementation of the teaching potential of the media by teachers: the inclusion of media texts publications in school lessons, the listening of radio broadcasts during classes and their further discussion, the incorporation of watching films to lecture classes, etc.

Abstract

The article discusses the concept of journalistic ethics in the PRC, documents codifying ethical norms, as well as the basic principles that guide Chinese journalists in their professional activities. The authors identify principles of the ethics of journalists in the modern PRC: conducting professional work in the interests and in accordance with the values of the CPC; perceiving information as something to be given, as news to be reliably told to the general public. The journalist must be an exemplary representative of Chinese society who is able to inspire and lead the people of the PRC. This statement, according to the analyzed survey, is supported by the majority of journalists in China. Less attention is paid to practical recommendations for the work of journalists than to ideological postulates from both the government, the controlling organization, and the journalistic community.

HISTORY OF JOURNALISM

Abstract

In the article almanacs are interpreted as an international type of publications, presented in the all major European national traditions and developed predominantly on a European basis. Originating in the East, astrological almanacs-calendars spread throughout Europe in the Middle Ages. At the threshold of the Modern Age, almanacs significantly transformed. In Russia, since the end of the 18th century, literary component of the once unified almanac-calendar has been dominating; in the United States, at the same time, the calendar content has been overshadowing (“Farmer’s Almanacs”). European tradition of the almanacs explicates the syntagmatics of the phenomenon, the Russian – semantics, the American – pragmatics. In the other words, in the United States, the calendar element of almanacs changed to the greatest extent. In contrast to this, in Russia, almanac content was culture-oriented and served as channel of a national literature. The calendar element in the Russian almanac tradition did not appear directly, but was mediated by the literary content formed under the influence of the romantic type of the culture (manifested in the seasonal confinement, composition, genres and thematic, tolerance for the ideological differences). As an international type of publications, almanacs reveal their full potential at the intersection of the different national traditions.

Abstract

Purpose. The article aims to consider the public evaluation of chess and attitude toward this game from the perspective of aesthetic disputes of the 1850s (based on the materials from magazines “Sovremennik”, “Otechestvennye zapiski”, “Russkoe slovo”).

Results. The popularization of chess in Russian periodicals such as magazines coincided with socio-cultural changes: the opening of the first society of chess amateurs in St. Petersburg, the publication of many manuals and tutorials, including those written by Russian masters. The key role in the popularization of the chess game was played by the patron of society G. A. Kushelev-Bezborodko, who also supported the appearance of a special supplement in the “Russkoe slovo” magazine. The article deals with the attacks of the satirical weekly magazine “Iskra” on the Chess sheet. Concluding this assault, the “Iskra” columnist Vasiliy Kurochkin quoted poetry by Nickolay Nekrasov “No time for chess, No time for songs”.

Conclusion. The article attempts to include local episode from the history of literary struggle in a broader context associated with both the configurations of the reader's and writer's everyday life, and the aesthetic disputes of the era. For the liberal critics of 1850, chess became the center of aesthetic theory, allowing the confrontation between geniuses and talents, for the radical commoners, game became an everyday phenomenon using at leisure.

Abstract

Purpose. The article analyzes the contribution of the opinion journalism by the outstanding Decembrist-Liberal Nikolay I. Turgenev in comparison with the publicist activity of his younger distant relative and like-minded Liberal, author of the famous novel “Ottsy i deti” (“Fathers and Sons”) Ivan S. Turgenev to the development of intergenerational communication. The attention focuses on the experience of the relationships of both Turgenevs as representatives of the 1820s and 1840s generations with their own generations and with the 1860s generation.

Results. The comparison of memoir essays wrote by I. S. Turgenevin1868–1869 and of his open letter to the editor of the “Vestnik Evropy” (“Bulletin of Europe”) in 1879, which raised the topic of his interactions with a young cohort, with articles by N. I. Turgenev in the Russian-language periodicals of 1858–1869 (including his polemical dialogue with editorial board of the “Kolokol” (“Bell”) magazine in 1858–1863) reveals the great communicative potential of both publicists. The article raises the question on the foundation for the late inclusion of the liberal “Vestnik Evropy” (“Bulletin of Europe”), with which I. S. Turgenev constantly collaborated, in a dialogue with the N. I. Turgenev.

Conclusion. The article concludes that the liberal tolerant intention played the decisive role in the intergenerational communication, built by both Turgenevs and aimed to avoid “generational gaps”.
